Police officers, firefighters and medics were called to Siler Drive and Ridge Road at 4:13 p.m. on Sunday.

Allegheny County Police said two men and a woman were shot. One of the men died. The other man and the woman are currently listed in critical condition.

On Monday, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man who died as 48-year-old Jason J. Steiner.

Officials say the shooting came after an altercation between two families. One of the families lived on Siler Drive and the argument took place in their front yard and escalated to gunfire.

Everyone involved in the situation was detained and interviewed, according to police.

Police tell Channel 11 the two families knew one another. They were not neighbors. Investigators would not say what may have started the fight.

“It is not random. We don’t believe there is any danger to the community,“ Lt. Todd Dolfi with Allegheny County Police said.

“It’s a very safe area. All of Jefferson Hills is very safe, but anytime like this when something happens, the community is always concerned,” Jefferson Hills Police Chief Ron Dziezgowski said.

Channel 11 News talked to a neighbor who witnessed the entire situation unfold. He did not want to be identified, but said around 4 p.m. Sunday, he heard a loud commotion outside and looked out the window a saw a man who he described as “irate” pacing around his car in the street, outside a home on Siler Drive.

“He was swinging a bat in the air and pounding it and yelling and screaming at the top of his lungs at the house,” a neighbor tells Channel 11. “The next thing I know, he went in, reached in, pulled out a gun. I could clearly see it was a gun — aiming it at the house.”

That man says he couldn’t tell who fired first, but at least 12 shots were fired. He said he saw the man in the street grip his stomach and walk toward a yard before collapsing near bushes outside of his house.

“His brother showed up towards the end of the gunfire,” he added. “I heard it was his brother because he yelled ‘He shot my brother!’”

The other man and woman also shot were rushed to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

“It’s a terrible situation. I don’t know who is at fault. It’s a terrible tragedy and I hope they recover.”

Police are not labeling anyone as a suspect at the moment but tell us they are speaking with several people. They’ll be consulting with the county district attorney to determine who, if anyone, will face charges.

The Jefferson Hills Police Department said there is no active threat to the public.
