PITTSBURGH — Former President Donald Trump was found guilty Thursday on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
The reaction has, unsurprisingly, been mostly along party lines.

“I think history will judge this as a personal scandal of no bearing on public policy that was twisted into a criminal prosecution by an elected Democratic district attorney,” Sam DeMarco said. He chairs Allegheny County’s Republican Party.
“His party will nominate him for president and the American people will be the final, meaningful jury,” he said.
Republican Congressman Guy Reschenthaler took to “X” to say “Today, American freedom and democracy have fallen. The weaponization of the legal system by Joe Biden and his DOJ is one of the biggest stains on democracy in American history.”
Across the aisle, a different reaction.
“Nobody is above the law. I think justice is being done, which is important. I don’t really see it as a victory for either side. I feel like this is just the law playing out,” Beaver County Democratic Committee Chair Erin Gabriel said. “I don’t know that his necessarily changed the minds of his supporters.”
Democratic Congressman Chris Deluzio echoed that sentiment in as statement to Channel 11 saying “Nobody is above the law.”
“On our side, it just strengthens our resolve to make sure we don’t have a convicted felon as our president,” Gabriel said.
“We look forward to appellate courts weighing in and correcting this mistake,” DeMarco said.
The ongoing trial had kept former President Trump tethered to New York. Now that his phase is over, DeMarco tells Channel 11 we should expect to see Trump campaigning in our area “soon and often.”
