Local police officers give toys to children with special needs

PITTSBURGH — Police spread holiday joy to children in Pittsburgh.

Officers joined Mr. and Mrs. Claus at the Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh in Squirrel Hill to give out presents.

They gave toys to nearly 200 students at the school on Wednesday.

The institute supports students with special needs from more than 60 local school districts.

“Every present that is given out there, we get a smile in return. That is our present back to us as officers,” said Chief David Nemec with the Apinwall Police Department.

The “Presents from Police” event has been happening for 13 years.
