PITTSBURGH — A 64-year-old man was stabbed to death in Overbrook on Monday afternoon.
The stabbing happened in the 2100 block of Lucina Avenue around 3 p.m., Pittsburgh police said.
Once on scene, first responders found the victim in the entryway with a “severe laceration” to his chest.
The victim, later identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office as James Hudak, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Christopher Hudak, 28, was arrested and charged with criminal homicide. He was taken to a local hospital with a hand injury.
Jerry Berberich, who lives a few doors down, said Christopher is the victim’s son. He was sad to hear a family situation turned deadly.
“I’m shocked, actually. I’m surprised,” Berberich said. “I knew these people for a long time.”
Berberich described the son as polite and friendly. Berberich and other neighbors told Channel 11 that the father was kind and loved to talk. They said the pair never seemed to have any problems.
“They worked on their cars and stuff together. I’ve never seen them having any problems,” Berberich said. “I thought they got along good. I can’t believe what happened. I’ve known him [the son] since he was a kid, a little kid.”
Nicole Cranmer, who lives behind the home, described the neighborhood as quiet and was shocked when she heard the police sirens.
“We just came out of our backyard, and I could see some of the cop cars up here but wasn’t sure what was going on,” Cranmer said. “We really live in a nice, quiet bubble up here. It’s a lot of older families and younger with kids, so never something that you really want to see up here.”
Investigators spent hours at the house taking pictures and collecting evidence. Detectives also interviewed several neighbors who were left shaken and in disbelief.
“They’re nice people,” said Berberich. “I’m shocked. I can’t believe it.”
