BUTLER COUNTY, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police say they’ve identified a man accused of dumping a dog outside of a Butler County animal shelter during near-freezing temperatures.
Channel 11 first told you about this story at the end of November. Surveillance video caught a man leaving a dog in a cage outside the Butler County Humane Society within a half hour of the shelter closing for the day. The dog wasn’t found by staff until they opened at 7 a.m. the next day, 13 hours after being dropped off.

A PSP spokesperson says the agency has now identified the owner of the dog, who is identified only as a 64-year-old Karns City man. He was interviewed on Dec. 13 and admitted to leaving his dog outside the humane society. PSP says the man will face charges. But, those charges have not yet been filed.
The dog, who shelter staff have renamed Mercy, is doing well.
