Man accused of stabbing another man after argument near Shadyside restaurant

PITTSBURGH — A man is facing charges after he allegedly stabbed another man after an argument near a restaurant in Shadyside over the weekend.

Gaetano Grant, of Murrysville, is accused of stabbing a man outside Shady Grove on Walnut Street on Saturday.

Pittsburgh police say the victim and his friend were at Shady Grove around midnight Saturday and then went outside to wait for their Uber. The victim told police Grant was outside making strange comments to a woman and had been making similar comments to other women inside the restaurant earlier. That prompted the victim and Grant to get into an argument and started fighting until others broke it up.

As the victim walked away, the victim says Grant stabbed him in the back and ran off.

The victim was taken to UPMC Presby. His family told police their son’s injuries are serious, saying he can’t feel his leg and has a lot of numbness and tingling.

The restaurant said police also used their surveillance footage and credit card transactions to help identify him.

“Police came in. We were able to show them our surveillance cameras. They used the description of the suspect and we were basically able to narrow it down the time and him using his credit cards a couple of times. We were able to match up the description and credit card name,” Shady Grove owner Matt Turbiner said.

Turbiner says Shadyside is a usually a safe area and this rarely happens.

“A lot of people have cameras around here I think the lighting its great the chamber provides a really safe atmosphere I think we need to continue to be vigilant take care of one another and make sure everything is safe,” Turbiner said.

Grant is in jail, was denied bail and faces charges including attempted homicide and aggravated assault.
