PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police said they got a dangerous suspect off the North Side streets this week.

Rayshawn Austin is charged with the attempted homicide of three people, including a 2-year-old.

Police believe Austin is connected to several other shootings.

"We think we have taken a very serious criminal off the street and a person who has blatant disregard for human life," said police Cmdr. RaShall Brackney.

Channel 11 spoke with a neighbor who remembers the shooting on Brighton Road.

"We heard all these shot and then somebody screaming," said Lesly Georgia.

Police said Austin fired multiple shots at a car that had a man, woman and 2-year-old child inside.  The toddler crouched on the floor of the car as bullets hit the windshield, police said.  The man was hit in the arm.

"We've had a rash of shootings right in this block of Brighton Road that we believe we can slowly tie to Rayshawn," said Brackney.

Investigators said they found out where Austin was staying and caught him on Tuesday.

He is charged in the Brighton shooting, and police said they found a weapon and heroin on him.

"This is probably one of the safer parts of Pittsburgh.  Zone 1 police do a fantastic job at responding to calls right away.  We feel very safe in this area," said neighbor Jordan Kay.
