FAWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man was airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital with life-threatening injuries from a from a barrel explosion at a trucking company garage.
Authorities said the man sustained severe head and facial injuries in the explosion around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Graff Trucking in Fawn Township.
“We just heard a loud explosion,” said James Keys, who was just down Bakerstown Road when he heard the noise. “I knew something was wrong because it’s pretty quiet out here.”
Police Chief Timothy Mayberry said the man was visiting a friend who owns the trucking company.
“I was really sad, especially for the guy that’s injured,” Keys said.
Mayberry said it wasn't clear what was in the 55-gallon drum. A county fire marshal is investigating.
Channel 11's Brandon Hudson reported Wednesday that the man, in his 50s, remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. His name hasn't been released.
