MONROEVILLE, Pa. — A man fired a gun at a couple inside a home in Monroeville while two babies, a young child and a teenager were inside, court documents said.
Officers were called to a house on the 500 block of Sunnyfield Drive at 11:49 p.m. on Saturday for reports of a man with a gun.
According to the criminal complaint, when officers arrived, they ordered everybody who was inside the home to come out. A woman and her boyfriend were the first to exit.
They told authorities that Darnell Nelson, 31, had fired a shot at them in the house.
The criminal complaint said, the woman told police that Nelson said, “I’m doing what I should have been doing,” before firing a shot in the kitchen of the home.
After the shot was fired, the victims told police they ran upstairs, called 911, and hid in a room until officers arrived.
Nelson and another woman eventually left the house with a 6-month-old baby in a carrier.
Police said they found a gun in the woman’s bag. She said it was hers, but according to the criminal complaint, the gun was registered to another person.
When police searched the home, they found a shell casing and a bullet hole in the kitchen cabinet, the complaint said.
Inside the home were four children: a teenage boy, a 5-year-old girl, a 9-month-old boy and a 6-month-old girl. The 6-month-old is Nelson’s daughter, police said.
Nelson was taken to the Allegheny County Jail and is facing charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of another person, and person not to possess a firearm.
