Man, 64, hospitalized after December hit-and-run in Pittsburgh dies

PITTSBURGH — A 64-year-old man who had been hospitalized since a hit-and-run accident in December died Monday, his family said.

Just a few days before Christmas, Gregory Simpson was crossing the intersection of Federal Street Extension and Seabright Street in Perry South to get to his car when he was struck by a vehicle.

Simpson was left in critical condition and transported to Allegheny General Hospital, where he died Monday night.

The driver did not stay at the scene and left two other parked vehicles wrecked.

“How do you sleep at night? Because I don’t sleep at night. I haven’t slept since Dec. 20,” Simpson’s daughter, Danielle Simpson, told Channel 11 News last Friday. “They still are up walking around doing what they have to do for their families. They're able to laugh, hug and cry. We don’t have that.”

Witnesses said the driver was in a grey-colored SUV or truck, possibly a Ford or GMC. Police said they also believe that a bug shield is mounted on the vehicle.

The only evidence investigators found were pieces of the vehicle left at the site.
