INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. — A man was killed in an early morning dump truck crash in Indiana County.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers were called to the area of State Route 119 at Wayne Avenue at around 4:34 a.m. for a single-vehicle accident.
The car, a 2016 Mack dump truck that was unloaded, was driving south on State Route 119 when he lost control for unknown reasons. The truck went into the median and hit a guardrail before going through the median, hitting an embankment, going airborne and going through the State Route 119 overpass over Wayne Avenue.
Police said the truck hit a concrete barrier below and finally stopped on Wayne Avenue.
The driver was identified as Thomas Mears, 57, of Marion Center, Pennsylvania. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the truck, police said.
Mears was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center and was then flown to Allegheny General Hospital where he died, officials said.
The investigation is ongoing.
