Man pleads guilty to drunk driving crash that killed Westmoreland woman

A Westmoreland man pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges related to a 2021 crash on Route 136 in Hempfield Township that killed a woman and injured her husband.

Ronald Jaffre, 55, pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle while DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI and two DUI misdemeanor charges for the crash that killed Joann Wardezak.

Police said Jaffre had a blood alcohol level of .14 — nearly two times the legal limit.

Jaffre crossed the center line and slammed into the Wardezaks’ vehicle, according to investigators and reconstruction reports.
