Man charged with shooting brother on Christmas Eve in Butler Township, police say

BUTLER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man is facing charges after police say he shot his brother on Christmas Eve in Butler Township.

Logan Rapsinski is accused of shooting his brother at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday. He has been arrested and is charged with attempted homicide.

“All of a sudden I heard some gunshots out of nowhere,” neighbor Zachary Witty said.

Witty said he was getting ready for the holiday when he heard the shooting.

“I was actually wrapping Christmas presents late night and then I heard what sounded like gunshots,” he said.

Witty said he looked outside the window and saw two trucks.

“And I heard somebody scream and then I knew this is something that doesn’t happen everyday so I immediately picked up my phone and called the police,” Witty said.

Butler Township police responded and say they found the victim laying on the ground. Police say he was shot in groin and was taken to a local hospital.

The victim told police his brother shot him. The victim said Rapsinski left their house agitated and the family called Butler County Crisis for help earlier. The victim then drove around looking for Rapsinski when he saw him parked on a quiet neighborhood street. When he approached him, the victim said Rapsinski pulled out a handgun, loaded a round, shot him and then ran off.

Neighbors told Channel 11 this was surprising and upsetting.

“I thought there was no way this could be happening. We kind of live in a quiet neighborhood street here, nothing generally happens,” Witty said.

The victim is in stable condition.

Police say Rapsinski also called 911 and was taken into custody. According to police paperwork, he told police the victim approached him and threatened to beat him up before he shot the victim from about 14 feet away.

Rapsinski is being held at the Butler County jail and also faces aggravated assault charges
