BRADDOCK, Pa. — Authorities have identified a 24-year-old father of two who was shot and killed in Braddock early Monday morning.
Investigators said Derrail Roilton was shot on Second Street shortly after leaving a bar in Homewood. Neighbors said they heard 12 to 16 shots fired around 3 a.m.
Police responded and found Roilton, who had apparently been running away from the shooter, in the yard on the side of his mother’s house. Detectives said he was shot three times in the head.
Channel 11’s Dave Bondy reported that the violent crime shocked people who live in the area. Braddock Mayor John Fetterman said a deadly shooting hasn’t happened in the area in five years.
“We lost a life this morning, and through violence. There’s always a better solution than the way things ended this morning. You can’t do that and you can’t take it back,” Fetterman said.
Fetterman said he didn’t know Roilton personally, but talked to his family Monday morning.
“From what I understand, two small children are now without their father. A family is without a son. In the end of the day, it’s not over anything important. It’s a sad day in our town,” Fetterman said.
So far, no arrests have been made, but police questioned a 20-year-old man for several hours Monday afternoon.
That man’s mother told Channel 11’s Renee Kaminski that her son will not be charged.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact police.
“Don’t be afraid to speak up so we have the best chance of taking a killer or killers off the street,” Fetterman said.
