Man taken to hospital after officer involved shooting in Washington County

WASHINGTON, Pa. — A man was taken to the hospital after an officer-involved shooting in Washington County Friday morning.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, around 6:30 a.m., their Computer Crime Unit was serving a search warrant in the 10 block of Oak Street in Washington.

The warrant was for alleged child pornography possession.

When troopers arrived, a woman answered the door and allowed troopers to enter.

Once troopers got inside, the woman’s son took out a gun, and that is when troopers fired shots.

The man was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital. His condition is not known at this time.

Washington Mayor JoJo Burgess tells Channel 11 that the man shot is his cousin.

The man, who is 22 years old, is deaf and has had dealings with police in the past, Burgess said. Burgess did not specify the nature of those encounters, but said they never ended in gunfire.

Burgess said Washington police were not aware of today’s warrant service, adding that something very wrong happened and the family needs answers.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
