McCandless home invasion caught on camera, police need help identifying suspect

MCCANDLESS, Pa. — McCandless police need help identifying a man investigators say was caught on home security video in the midst of a home invasion on Bristol Court, just off Grubbs Road, around 11 a.m. Friday morning.

“We have a camera that faces our back door. My husband was out volunteering for football and got a notification of motion. He checked it a saw a strange man in our home,” one of the homeowners told Channel 11. The family asked not to be identified.

The family says their oldest son had just left the house to drive his younger brother to work and left a door by the garage unlocked.

Police say the trespasser came through that door and into an empty house, just minutes before the son got home.

“You wonder, were they casing the area, casing the neighborhood? Do they know cars? Do they know when people come and go? To have that kind of timing was very suspicious and scary,” one of the homeowners said.

The father alerted his son about what he saw on camera and the son hid in the basement and called 911.

The family says the intruder did not take anything from the home and was gone before police got there.

“Nothing was taken. Not a thing. The timing was a blessing from God, that the time that he circled around the house, he was caught on the camera,” one of the homeowners said.

Now, they’re alerting all their neighbors about what happened and hoping the police are able to track down the man before he strikes again.

“We feel like they’re on top of it and taking it very seriously. Not only for us but for the other people in the community,” one of the homeowners said.

If you are able to help out investigators identify the man, you’re asked to contact McCandless police.
