O'HARA TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Longtime paramedic Nancy Brice is on the road to recovery after she was in a serious crash while on the job for Clarion Hospital EMS.
State police said on Sunday, she was working in the back of the ambulance with no seatbelt on.
”As a clinician in the back of the ambulance, generally they are not restrained because they are doing care,” said Mark Lauer, Karns City Regional Ambulance Service.
Hospital officials said the ambulance was transporting a child on a stretcher to UPMC Children’s Hospital with the patient’s family member.
On their way there, police said the ambulance crashed on Route 28 in O’Hara Township after the driver hit a guardrail just before midnight.
Brice was taken to AGH and suffered pretty serious fractures to her ribs and spine.
She is also a medic at Karns City Regional Ambulance Service.
Close colleague Mark Lauer visited her at AGH and gave us an update on her condition.
”She was doing better. She is beat up a little bit but she is doing well and anticipates being able to come back to work for Clarion Hospital and Karns City Regional,” said Lauer.
Lauer said Brice is beloved in the community and is receiving a lot of support as she heals.
”Nancy has been in the valley helping people since the late 70s and became a paramedic in 1981,” said Lauer. “She has been in this valley all her life and she means the world to a lot of people here.”
The driver, the child and patient’s family member were not hurt in the crash.
