MENALLEN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A woman is facing multiple felony charges after police said she assaulted her 2-year-old child.
Court documents say police were called to assist Fayette County Children and Youth after the toddler was taken from their house in Menallen Township to Uniontown Hospital with severe bruising.
Police said the child had bruises on their entire body, was red around their neck and had bloodshot eyes.
The mother, Aubree Jean Renee Hale, 21, said she had fallen asleep with the baby on her chest and woke up with the child lying on the floor crying.
A witness told police they saw Hale slapping the child, throwing it on the bed, and throwing pillows at them.
Medical experts also said the child’s wounds did not match the story Hale had provided.
In a report shared with police, one professional said:
“In summary, there are too many bruises to count, as well as numerous superficial abrasions and laceration[s] over nearly every surface of this child’s body. [They were] also found to have injury to the veins in [their] brain consistent with trauma.”
The MD also said it was difficult for them to conceive how the injuries could have all happened at the same time and did not believe any injuries could have been self-inflicted.
Hale faces two aggravated assault charges and one charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
