Monessen bar shut down after being declared ‘nuisance'

MONESSEN, Pa. — A restaurant in Monessen was shut down Friday afternoon after the Westmoreland County district attorney got a court order to have it declared a “nuisance.”

The district attorney said there have been 18 criminal complaints, including a shooting, at the S & H Lounge since 2012.

Monessen Police Chief John Held said padlocking the bar will let the people of Monessen live more peacefully.

“The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board was here investigating undercover throughout the past weeks. They have their report. I think it was the accumulation of everything. The shooting, of course, is a major factor,” said Held.

A hearing is set for later this month on the bar’s future.
