“125 years is a long time,” said Tasha Pokrzywa, Kennywood communications manager. “There are all kind of things throughout the year that we’re really looking forward to.”
Spinvasion, the park’s newest ride, is the first of its kind in the nation. The multi-action spin attraction is so new that it hasn’t even arrived yet, with a projected launch of Memorial Day weekend. It’s the centerpiece to the new alien-themed section of the park, Area 412, taking riders out of this world and up to 40 miles per hour into orbit.
“it’s a really intense combination of speed and gravity,” Pokrzywa said. “You’ll kind of man your own aircraft, sway up and down, you’ll go parallel to the ground at times.”
Crews are putting the finishing touches on several other projects, including a new-and-improved Pizza Warehouse, a Kennywood classic with a fresh look. If you’re craving more of a “sweet and savory” combination, look no farther than Pagoda, now with a whimsical façade featuring sausage on one side and ice cream on the other.
In addition, the brand new 1898 Coffee Co. will open for those needing a caffeine fix.
“Every season, we want to elevate the guest experience even more,” Pokrzywa said. "
The year-long lineup of events continues, with 125th Celebration weekends planned until May 21st featuring a different decade every weekend and a touch of nostalgia for years to come.
“[We’ll] be able to give families a chance to create these memories -- generations of families have been visiting,’ Pokrzywa said.
Opening day is April 22.
