PITTSBURGH — Steelers running back Najee Harris is holding an event to help homeless children in the Pittsburgh area. Harris sat down with Channel 11′s Jenna Harner to talk about his new foundation, and the event he’s holding on Sept. 30.
Harris wanted to have an impact beyond the football field because of the environment he grew up in. He told Channel 11, “I was just at a disadvantage because of just living situations, just money wise. I didn’t have the resources others had.”
Harris formed “Da Bigger Picture Foundation” — a name he thought of himself — and it’s a name that has a very specific purpose. “So it’s really just a motivation for kids to say like, you know, although you’re going through what you’re going through right now, but if you get the bigger picture of: this is where you start, but this is not the end,” said Harris.
Da Bigger Picture focuses on assisting underserved families in reaching their potential and goals. Harris, along with the Red Meat Lovers Club, is hosting a fundraising dinner on Sept. 30 at Sullivan’s Steakhouse, downtown.
The beneficiary of this event will be the Homeless Children’s Education Fund in Pittsburgh.
Jenna Harner asked Harris what it means for him to give back to Pittsburgh. He said, “I’m representing them, you know. I mean, they’re, they’re supporting me. I want to support them in other ways than just football, and this is one of them. I always appreciated how they let me in their city, and just embraced me. So, you know, the bare minimum I can do is just give back.”
