According to police, Charles Hull, 56, was shot and killed by a Penn Hills police officer after Hull's live-in girlfriend called 911.

"She said her boyfriend was outside with a rifle, and she was afraid he wanted to kill himself," said Charles Moffatt of Allegheny County police.

When she hung up, police said Hull came back into the house and put the woman in a closet.  She escaped, police said.

When police arrived, police said Hull pointed the rifle at an officer.

Hull's girlfriend told police he fired one shot inside the house.  It was a shot that initially woke her up, police said.
