A New Castle man was killed in an early-morning crash Thursday in Butler County.
James Barge, 65, was identified by state police as the victim in a two-vehicle crash that took place at around 1:25 a.m. on New Castle Road near Unionville Road in Franklin Township. Barge, who was the driver and only occupant of a Toyota Camry, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 24-year-old woman from Fombell who was transported to an area hospital, will be charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, according to state police.
The woman was driving a Honda CRV when she allegedly crossed the center line and center turn lane, hitting Barge’s vehicle.
Route 422 was closed in the area for hours as crews investigated and cleared the scene, which is near the Big Butler Fairgrounds.
