Man killed in fatal crash on Parkway East

PITTSBURGH — A man died in a crash on the Parkway East on Sunday afternoon.

I-376 was closed between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale exit (Exit 77) for hours after the crash, which was reported at 12:19 p.m.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 50-year-old Ronald Richards of Plum. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a gray SUV exited the roadway for unknown reasons, struck a guide rail and continued over the embankment.

A Channel 11 crew on scene saw first responders preparing to remove a car from a ditch below the embankment.

The roadway reopened around 5:15 p.m. State Police said drivers should still be alert for any additional crews in that area overnight or in the following days.
