PITTSBURGH — State police say a man suspected of driving under the influence killed a tow truck driver in a hit and run crash on the Parkway West overnight.
Troopers identify the man killed as 53-year-old Husam Shuibat, a tow truck driver for Advantage Towing out of Carnegie.
Police arrested a man on suspicion of DUI, and say he fled the scene. Multiple witnesses stayed behind, giving first responders the driver’s license plate number and vehicle description.
Investigators tracked down the driver and took them in for questioning and a blood draw less than an hour after the crash, crediting those alert drivers for helping police.
Advantage Towing told Channel 11 that Shuibat was a very hard-working person and was dedicated to his job. He’s been with the company for ten years, based out of Pittsburgh for five.
The Pennsylvania Towing Association released the following statement about the hit-and-run:
The Pennsylvania Towing Association would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of Husam Shuibat from Green Tree, Pennsylvania. Mr. Shuibat lost his life last night after being struck in a hit and run incident while loading a vehicle. The at fault driver was later found and arrested.
The investigation is currently ongoing. Troopers say more charges will be filed after the blood alcohol results and accident reconstruction reports come back.
