JEFFERSON HILLS, Pa. — A woman died after she was hit by a truck while crossing Route 837 in Jefferson Hills on Wednesday evening.
Jessica Schroeder, 26, walked to the Shop N Go Deli around 7:30 p.m. to get snacks when she was hit. Her mother told Channel 11′s Cara Sapida that it was a tradition and what she did every other week when she got paid.
“The next thing I know I got a phone call saying, ‘Your daughter was hit,’ and I was like, ‘No!’” said Denise Schroeder.
Jefferson Hills police are still investigating. The chief says the driver stayed at the scene. Witnesses say he did a u-turn and came back, remaining in his truck until the tow truck arrived.
Denise said her daughter worked at McDonalds on Route 51 for the last six years and was loved.
“She was bubbly. Everybody at work loved her,” said Denise, who got a phone call from the store manager. “She was crying. She said she always had a place in my heart as soon as I met her. She said everybody here is devastated.”
Denise’s neighbor started a GoFundMe Thursday for her family.
“I need all the help I can get. I didn’t expect any of this,” Denise said.
