PENN HILLS, Pa. — A Penn Hills man charged with raping a woman was taken into custody Wednesday.
The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office said Ramond Byrdsong Jr., 38, is facing several charges, including felony counts of rape, aggravated indecent assault and sexual assault, in connection with an assault on Dec. 12.
The victim told police Byrdsong forced her into the basement of her home and sexually assaulted her before she was able to leave.
Officials said the victim called 911 and responding Penn Hills officers found Byrdsong outside of the house in a running car. They tried to get him out but he sped away.
Earlier this week, Penn Hills police contacted the sheriff’s office for help in finding Byrdsong.
Wednesday, the sheriff’s office learned Byrdson was inside a house along Shenandoah Drive in Penn Hills. They went to the residence at around 7 p.m. and found him hiding underneath a bed with a blanket on top of him.
Byrdsong was taken into custody without incident. He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.
