NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A local man running for office was attacked outside his own home earlier this week.

”I mean, I was unconscious. I don’t know how long I was unconscious,” Richard Ringer said.

Ringer is left with visible bruises on his face and cuts on his hand after someone physically assaulted him outside of his home early Monday.

He said he heard someone pulling on his garage door before he saw flashlights in his front yard.

”I just went up, took a couple steps, bear hugged him, tackled him. He just started pummeling me in the head and face at least 10 times, knocked me out,” Ringer explained.

Ringer is the House Democratic candidate for the 51st District. This assault was just the latest incident Ringer has dealt with.

In the last 3 weeks, he said he had a message spray painted on his garage door and a brick thrown through a back door window.

“You don’t get used to it, but nothing really surprises me. I’m surprised this happened, but really, not totally unexpected something would happen getting close to Election Day,” Ringer said.

While he is not sure if the incidents are all connected, he believes they are likely politically motivated.

“I cannot definitively connect all three dots and say it’s related to the campaign. I’m suspicious. Very suspicious, yes,” Ringer said.

The escalation of targeted events has him obviously upset, but motivated more than ever.

”I have nothing to hide. Why do this?”

State police confirmed they are investigating.
