HARRISBURG, Pa. — Lots of rare bottles of bourbon are up for grabs in a lottery put on by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
According to Channel 11′s news exchange partners at TribLIVE, there are 1,208 bottles of Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery’s bourbons available to Pennsylvanians through the lottery. The lottery is open until Friday at 5 p.m.
The most anticipated release is the Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Straight Bourbon 23 Year Old that costs $399.99 per bottle, according to TribLIVE. There are 31 bottles available for individuals, and 10 are available for bars, clubs and restaurants.
Other bottles cost between $89.99 and $249.99.
The lottery attracts tens of thousands of entries, despite the prices, TribLIVE reported. The 2022 lottery will look different, with only five whiskeys being offered instead of the traditional six.
The bourbon is highly sought after, and production can’t keep up with the demand because it has to age for a number of years.
