PITTSBURGH — A person was arrested they allegedly attacked a group of students with a bottle near the Cathedral of Learning in Oakland Friday.
University of Pittsburgh officials said a group of Jewish students were attacked. Two students were treated for injuries at the scene.
The suspect was arrested at the scene. He has no known Pitt affiliation, officials said.
Court documents identify that man as Jarret Buba, 52, from Oakland.
“Upon learning about this incident, Pitt leadership contacted Hillel University Center to offer support to our students and also connected with our partners at the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh. We are grateful to our Pitt Police officers for their swift action, and our Student Affairs team for their ongoing student support,” university officials said.
Officials also said there is not believed to be any ongoing threat to the public stemming from this incident.
Police also said the incident is not believed to be connected to the shooting at the Carnegie Museums earlier in the day.
“We recognize that incidents like these are disturbing to the Pitt community. The University Counseling Center is available to any student needing support, and Life Solutions is available to all faculty and staff members,” University of Pittsburgh officials said.
The investigation is ongoing.
“To be clear: Neither acts of violence nor antisemitism will be tolerated. Local and federal partners are supporting Pitt Police in this ongoing investigation,” officials said.
