ALIQUIPPA, Pa. — A person was taken to a hospital after a shooting in Beaver County.
Beaver County dispatchers said police and medics were called to the 1200 block of Wade Street in Aliquippa for reports of a shooting at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Aliquippa Police said 20 shots were fired in the area.
When officers arrived, they found a “male victim” suffering from a gunshot wound. He was flown to a Pittsburgh area hospital, and his condition is currently unknown.
Officers from the Hopewell Township Police Department, Independence Township Police Department, Beaver County Sheriff’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police assisted at the scene.
Pennsylvania State Police will lead the investigation.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Pennsylvania State Police Beaver barracks at 724-773-7400.
Aliquippa Mayor Dwan B. Walker issued the following statement about the shooting:
“Violence will NOT be tolerated in the City of Aliquippa.
“Our Police Department remains committed to protecting our residents, our neighborhoods, and everyone who visits our community.
“We have increased patrols throughout the city, strengthened proactive enforcement efforts, and intensified our focus on identifying and apprehending individuals who engage in violent or criminal activity.
“These efforts have resulted in increased arrests and a stronger police presence throughout our neighborhoods.
“But public safety is a shared responsibility. If you see something, say something. If you know something, please report it.
“Together—with our residents, police officers, and community partners—we will continue working to keep Aliquippa safe.
“Enough is enough. Violence has no place in our city.”
