Pitcairn Monroeville Sportsmen’s Club under fire after alleged racist group uses facility

PITTSBURGH — The Pitcairn Monroeville Sportsmen’s Club is under fire after an alleged neo-Nazi organization used their facility for a recent event.

Attorney Phill DiLucente, special counsel representing the club, said their social hall was rented under false pretenses by the group.

“The management for the event — for the sportsman club — had no knowledge whatsoever that it was being utilized for the purpose that it was ultimately utilized for,” said DiLucente.

DiLucente said the club was told the hall was being rented for a wake.

Media circulating from the event shows people in attendance giving the Nazi salute and merchandise with racist and white supremacy imagery.

“(The club) would have not rented this for this purpose whatsoever,” said DiLucente.

Channel 11 spoke to Daryl Davis, race relations consultant with the Forgiveness Project, a group that shares stories from victims and perpetrators of crime who have rebuilt their lives following trauma.

“It’s disturbing for our county and not just our community. There is an uptick in all of this,” said Davis.

Davis believes the sportsmen’s club is taking the right approach by discussing what took place but says a larger conversation is needed.

The club’s chairman, Dan Maybury, said that formal action, including expulsions, should be taken.

“We believe decisive action is required to resolve this issue properly and within the bounds of the law,” he said.
