The Pittsburgh Public Schools Police Chief said the principal made a call about an unidentified white male with a black hood and mask inside the building. A teacher and a custodian saw this person inside. He was seen in the gender-neutral bathroom and then again in the gym.
Pittsburgh Police were also called to assist and the school started using their cameras to try and find the man. They went room to room searching but didn’t end up finding him.
There are metal detectors at the school and visitor management, but there are no school security officers for Pittsburgh Carmalt.
The school was placed on immediate lockdown before the evacuation began. Students and parents were reunited at the Brookline Recreational Center.
