Pittsburgh’s Logan Cooley is heading to the Arizona Coyotes.
The Coyotes drafted Cooley 3rd overall in the NHL Draft. It’s the highest any local player has even been drafted to the NHL. JT Miller was the previous high pick, being selected at #15 overall in the 2011 NHL Draft.
Cooley is from West Mifflin, and was the second ranked North American skater by NHL Central Scouting.
Cooley famously got his start with Sidney Crosby’s Little Penguins program several years ago during its first season. He spent time with the Penguins Elite squad before joining up with the US National Development Program.
Cooley also helped the US finish in second at the 2022 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, scoring 10 points in six games.
Cooley, projected to be a center, was second on the program’s under-18 team with 75 points through 51 games in 2021-22. He’s currently enrolled at the University of Minnesota.
