PITTSBURGH — The NHL has released the first set of stars for the 2022-2023 regular season, and Penguins captain Sidney Crosby took the top spot.

Crosby is currently leading the NHL in points with two goals and four assists. Crosby recorded three points in each of the first two games of the season.

According to the Penguins, this is the second time that Crosby has recorded three points in each of the Penguins’ first two games of the season. The first time was in 2014-2015.

The Penguins also said that in the Penguins’ home opener, Crosby scored the third-fastest goal by a Penguin in a season-opening game, hitting the back of the net 1 minute and 22 seconds into the game.

During the second game of the season against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Crosby passed Doug Gilmour for 19th place on the NHL’s all-time points list with 1,415. That game also led to Crosby’s breaking into the NHL’s top-20 all-time assists list with 896.

According to the Penguins, Crosby has 423 multi-point games under his belt, which is the most among active players and ranks 11th in NHL history.

So far this season, Crosby has been a part of 50% of the Penguins’ goals.
