PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates added right-handed pitcher Elvis Alvarado to the 40-man roster, the team announced Tuesday.
Alvarado, 25, spent the majority of the 2024 season with Triple-A Jacksonville, where he went 3-4 with 11 saves, a 2.79 ERA (48.1ip/15er) and 71 strikeouts (33.2 percent strikeout rate) in 41 relief appearances.
Alvarado began his professional career as an outfielder with the Washington Nationals organization before being converted to a pitcher in 2018.
The 6 foot, 4 inch tall righthander has posted a career record of 15-14 with 23 saves, a 4.25 ERA (230.2ip/109er) and 257 strikeouts in 175 appearances (seven starts) in his minor league career.
