PITTSBURGH — Police are looking for the person who smashed a window and stole from a local pharmacy.
Pittsburgh police responded to the Medicine Shoppe on Bailey Avenue on Mount Washington around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
“We’re still in the midst of a massive opioid crisis in this country,” said New Beginnings Transitional Living Foundation director of development, Gray Montague. “They run out of money. They become desperate and go and take what they need.”
New Beginnings Transitional Living Foundation is an organization that helps people with addiction, and it shares a sidewalk with the Medicine Shoppe that’s now littered with glass.
“”It was sad to see the store front broken open,” said Montague. “The owners are very good people.”
“It’s hard because you see people get to that point where you need help, and they feel like that’s the only thing they can do,” said Pete Bruner. “But on the flip side, you’re like, ‘bro that’s a business and you got to do that where you’re climbing through a window at night to steal something you need.’ So it’s sad.”
People who live nearby say they heard the alarm going off around 3 a.m. Tuesday. Then they saw the shattered glass. Pittsburgh police are investigating and haven’t said what was stolen.
“It happens all over the city and the country,” said Montague. “The real secret is with the right amount of help, you can get off the drugs completely, including maintenance drugs and lead a happy and productive life.”
There are several security cameras on this property, and Pittsburgh police hope they can use them to make an arrest.
