PITTSBURGH — A restaurant in Pittsburgh found a spot on Yelp’s top 100 restaurants for 2023 list.

Pitaland, in Brookline, was ranked 96th on the list. It is considered Pittsburgh’s original Middle Eastern bakery.

Yelp said Pitaland turns out 10,000 pitas daily and shares them with other local restaurants. It has operated for more than 50 years.

One Yelper said it’s “one of the best-kept secrets” in the city.

The Lamb Burger was featured on the list. The burger is made of ground lamb, rosemary, mint and garlic and it is topped with feta, pickled red onion, arugula and herbed mayo.

Joe and Jocelyne Chahine started the business after immigrating to the United States from Lebanon.

“My parents have met and helped so many people over the years because of our business—by sending them to schools, recommending the library, or employing them temporarily,” said Aleen Atencio, a Pitaland manager and daughter of the founders.

Pitaland also released a statement about being placed on the list saying: “We are so humbled and honored to be listed in Yelp’s list of Top 100 Restaurants in the country for 2023. After nearly 55 years in business in Pittsburgh, we look forward to continuing to provide exceptional food and service to all of our customers.”
