Pittsburgh road crews begin new installations to reduce speeding in North Side neighborhood

PITTSBURGH — Road crews in Pittsburgh have begun a new project that they hope will reduce speeding on Pittsburgh’s North Side.

Bascom Avenue in Perry North will soon have four new speed humps. It is the last of three streets to get the new additions.

Crews already added the humps to Haberman Avenue in Mount Washington between Kingsboro and Eureka. Stratmore Street in Crafton Heights has also gotten the speed humps.

People who live in these areas, where the speed limit is 25 mph, say they’re needed.

“It’s really windy. From the start it’s a straight shot down but once you go in it’s really windy. It’s very scary. People’s gardens are out front. Swimming pools. The bumps will help with safety,” said Kaylona Mciver, a resident.

The speed humps are expected to be added by mid-July.

If you think your street would benefit from speed-humps or other traffic calming measures, there’s a form you can fill out.
