PITTSBURGH — If you have a PNC account, you may want to double-check your mobile banking app. For the last 24 hours, customers have been noticing mysterious charges pop up on their accounts.
“It’s concerning that something like this could happen,” Tom Rubritz told Channel 11.
Rubritz was checking his PNC app this morning when he noticed something unusual pop up on his mobile banking statement.
“My wife was out shopping today, so I went and checked the account and looking at purchases, and I noticed a miscellaneous withdrawal of $11 in my account this morning,” he said.
The charges pop up as “pending debit,” and a random amount of money is charged to the account.
He’s not the only one who had this happen. Several people reached out to Channel 11 to tell us about mysterious charges that have shown up on their accounts over the last 24 hours.
A PNC spokesperson told us that the charges were from a “processing error,” and that a limited number of customers may be seeing duplicate transactions or generic transactions.
We asked if the error was because of a hack — and the spokesperson said no.
PNC says if you do see these charges on your count — you don’t need to contact them, you will automatically be reimbursed.
