Police agencies work together to help community members prepare for active shooter situations

BRENTWOOD, Pa. — Law enforcement agencies came together in Brentwood on Thursday to tell the public what to do in an active shooter situation.

The event was the third in a series held by Pennsylvania State Police around the region offering this type of training.

Authorities say acts of violence in open spaces are on the rise, and it’s important to have the community be aware of the options they have. They encourage everyone to speak with local police and beyond to develop a plan for an active shooter situation.

“We need the community. They are our eyes and ears when we’re not around. And without them, we can’t effectively do our jobs,” said Brentwood Police Chief Adam Zeppuhar.

One of the options residents have to prepare for the worst is inviting officers to tour their buildings, so first responders have a better idea of the layout beforehand — should the need for help ever arise.
