WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — Police say a man used wires from an electronic device and road flares to make it look as though he was wearing a bomb when he stole hundreds of painkilling tablets from a Derry Borough drug store.
Investigators said the robbery happened around 2 p.m. at the Rite Aid on Y Street.
Shortly after the incident police said tips from the public helped them arrest 39-year-old Gregory Dorough.
Police said Dorough walked into the Rite Aid and told workers he had a bomb strapped to him. Investigators said Dorough told a pharmacist that he would blow the store up if they didn't give him Oxycontin.
"He told them that if they didn't fill the bag in 20 seconds that he was going to blow up the store. So they filled up the bag with Oxycontin and he left the store," said Derry Borough police Chief Randy Glick.
Dorough was arrested around 10:30 p.m., police said, and they recovered 1,800 pills stolen during the robbery. Investigators said they also recovered the fake bomb materials worn during the heist, at Dorough's home.
