ARMSTRONG COUNTY, Pa. — Police in Armstrong County are warning kids to stay off the ice after receiving an influx of calls about kids playing on a nearby river this weekend.
The Southern Armstrong Regional Police Department said they received at least three calls in just as many days.
Officers are reminding kids and adults alike to stay off of Kiskiminetas River and other bodies of water.
“It may not seem like it but the past few days have been warmer. Those warmer conditions have been thinning the ice. As the ice thins, the risk of breaking through increases significantly,” officers said.
They shared photos of where the kids were playing and running water is now visible on those parts of the river.
Parents are asked to talk to their children about their safety on the ice.
