BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. — Police cars lined the command center in Brighton Township this afternoon.
“It’s scary like it’s quiet here and everybody knows everybody so it’s scary something like that could be in your neighborhood,” said Debbie Morgan.
That something was 21-year-old suspect Nathan Kistner. Morgan called 911 as this man with no shirt or shoes wandered her street.
“We were getting text messages from the neighbors that there was a fugitive on the loose. I was down at the farm and was getting ready to leave and I looked on the road and there he was just walking down the road,” Morgan said.
Police said Kistner escaped from his recovery house on Theodore Road in Chippewa Tuesday night. When his mother went to take him back, police said he assaulted her then attacked a recovery worker before stealing her car.
Brighton Township Police said a phone in that car allowed them to track the car over seven miles to where Kistner abandoned it on Beacom Road, not far from where Morgan spotted him.
“Good places to hide around here so he must have hid out for a few hours until everything settled down and when everything quieted that’s when he appeared,” Morgan said.
Thanks to that call, police got Kistner after more than six hours of searching. He now faces a long list of charges including aggravated assault, escape and robbery.
