BRADDOCK, Pa. — Police officers who saved a woman from her burning Braddock home last week were honored Tuesday night.
Clarence Gunter, Raymond Marr, Frank Barrerio and Brennan Thrower were awarded plaques at a monthly council meeting.
"I just want to publicly acknowledge them for their courage and their valor and what that represents to not only this department, but to this whole entire community," said Mayor John Fetterman.
The police officers crawled through smoke and flames in the house on Mapleview Terrace to reach fire victim, Lavonda Pompey.
"We knew there was someone in there that needed to be rescued. We didn't know when the fire company would get there. They're great guys, but it's a volunteer company. It was obvious that something needed done right then, so we did it," said Marr.
"I love them. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be standing here right now. I really appreciate them," said Pompey.
