SHALER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A barricade situation in Shaler Township Saturday is now being investigated by Allegheny County Police.
According to a press release, Shaler Police received a call for service for a female trespassing on the caller’s property. Officers arrived on scene and encountered an adult female on the enclosed side porch of the home on Middle Road.
The release says that the female produced a handgun and threatened to harm herself as officers were speaking with her. Shaler officers backed away from the female, established a perimeter and called for negotiators from the North Hills Special Response Team.
The female fired a round from the handgun during negotiations. Special Response team members entered the home and found the woman with what police say was an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Shaler Police then requested the assistance of the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit.
The investigation will be handled by Allegheny County Police.
