One man killed in shooting in Carrick neighborhood

PITTSBURGH — A man has died after a shooting in Carrick on Sunday night.

Police tell 11 News that the call came in just before 9 p.m., for a person shot in the 500 block of Maytide Street.

Responding units found 48-year old Michael E. Flaherty with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.

“Right now, the major crimes detectives and the crime scene unit are on the scene processing evidence and talking to neighbors to try and find out what transpired here,” said Cara Cruz, a public information officer with Pittsburgh police.

This shooting is one of many over the last week in the Pittsburgh area. 11 News asked Cruz about the uptick and violence, and what residents can do in response.

“Really, try to be aware of how your neighbors are, how they’re doing and how they’re faring,” she said. “People really seem to be struggling out there right now.”

Police said they are still searching for suspects.
