Pothole-covered roads around Pittsburgh Mills Mall set to be fixed

Frazer Township’s pothole-covered roads around Pittsburgh Mills Mall are set to finally be fixed. Channel 11 first covered the hazardous road conditions in 2023. Drivers tell us the conditions have deteriorated significantly, with drivers swerving into oncoming traffic to avoid damaging their cars.

State Representative Mandy Steele said her office receives multiple calls a week, both complaints and damage reports. The Frazier Township Police Department does as well.

“I’ve said for a long time that has been my major concern, we are going to see an accident, and someone is really going to get hurt, because they are trying to swerve around and they get hit,” said Steele.

Steele has been in talks with Namdar Realty Group, which owns the property and the mall.

“They told me on Monday, January 6, the largest potholes would be addressed. Now in my experience asphalt is difficult in the winter, they say they have a special cold weather mix they are going to use. We’ll be watching.”

Channel 11′s Cara Sapida reached out to Namdar management. They confirmed Monday is the day they’re scheduled to fix potholes, weather permitting.

This comes after Frazier Township filed a lawsuit against the company last fall. Steele said the group responded to the lawsuit on the last possible day allowed.

Shoppers we spoke to say at this point there are so many large potholes, they are difficult to avoid.

“They’re deep and there’s a lot of them,” said Brenda Contrael. “I came around the bend and I know to go slow because I knew there was one, but now all of them are potholes!”

“Trying to avoid the potholes so they don’t bend my wheel,” said Dale Hollenbaugh. “I’m just thankful I do miss all the deep ones. I can tell some are pretty deep, I’ve seen some people hit them and have flat tires, and probably bent wheels too.”
