PITTSBURGH — With possibly several inches of snow expected to fall through Monday, Pittsburgh city officials are explaining how the Department of Public Works plans to handle the winter weather.
According to a spokesperson for Mayor Ed Gainey, preparations begin Sunday at 6 p.m., when the Department of Public Works deploys 60 trucks to pre-treat roads. Then, at 7 a.m., 70 more trucks will be deployed to handle the two to eight inches of snow predicted to fall in the city.
“As we prepare for another winter weather event, our Public Works crews are stepping up to ensure Pittsburgh’s streets are safe and passable,” said Mayor Ed Gainey. “I want to thank our dedicated crews for their hard work and urge residents to help by avoiding street parking, exercising caution on the roads, and staying inside if possible. Let’s work together to navigate these weather challenges safely.”

City residents are asked to use caution while driving on Monday and plan for a longer commute.
When snow starts to fall heavily, DPW will close several streets as a precaution. Those streets are:
- Capitol Avenue
- Newett Street
- Copperfield Street
- South Negley Avenue
- Suffolk Street
- Rialto Street
The road will reopen on a case-by-case basis once the system passes.
It can take up to 24 hours after the snow stops for all city streets to be treated. If a street has not been cleared within 24 hours after snow sops, residents should call 311.
