The Pittsburgh Steelers will try to get a new contract done with quarterback Justin Fields this offseason, according to a report by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
Fields, who started six games and played in four more as a backup to Russell Wilson in the 2024 season, is set to become a pending free agent in March.
But Breer reported that the team might move even quicker than that, looking to lock Fields up for the 2025 season quickly, even if it’s not as the team’s starting quarterback.
“Wilson and Justin Fields are both free agents,” Breer wrote on Monday. “Will either be back in Pittsburgh? There was frustration with Wilson down the stretch, so I’m not sure how far the Steelers will be willing to go to keep him. Meanwhile, the team would love to keep working with Fields, but it might not be as a starter. I’d heard before the playoff game Saturday that the playoffs would likely help set the course.
